Los Angeles, CA — Former Speaker of the State Assembly and 41st Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa issued the following statement today regarding the U.S. Senate’s vote to re-open the federal government after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to allow a Senate floor debate on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).
Said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa:
“We now have a D-day for protecting Dreamers. This is a fight we simply must win – to protect these hard-working Americans and to preserve our core values as a nation.
“While protecting healthcare for children is an important victory – the battle will not be over until Dreamers are also protected. Now is the time to unite and organize to hold Congress to their promise.”
