Antonio Villaraigosa Calls on State Lands Commission to Immediately Drop Lawsuit Against City of San Francisco

January 12, 2018 – Today, former California Speaker and 41st Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa issued the following statement regarding the legal argument made by the State Lands Commission, Chaired by Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, and calls on them to drop the lawsuit against the City of San Francisco over Proposition B, which restricts certain high-rise development along the waterfront.

Said Antonio Villaraigosa:

“The State Lands Commission’s legal argument that the people of San Francisco are too uneducated on ballot issues to make a decision about height limits is both elitist and condescending. Unlike the former Mayor of San Francisco and current State Lands Commission Chair Gavin Newsom, I trust the voters of San Francisco’s decision to protect their own waterfront.

“I call on State Lands Commission Chair Gavin Newsom to honor the will of the San Francisco people and immediately drop this lawsuit.”
