Molina Cites Antonio’s Courage and Proven Leadership

Los Angeles – Today, former Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina endorsed Antonio Villaraigosa for Governor saying he will create greater economic opportunity and equality in the Golden State.

“Decision making leadership is the reason I am endorsing Antonio,” said Supervisor Molina. “As Mayor he made tough decisions in the best interest of the entire city, decisions that created financial stability for the long term. This is the courage we need to lead this state and prepare for the future either by threats from Washington DC or special interest control. Antonio Villaraigosa is a proven leader with a long list of accomplishments including education, environment healthcare and transportation.”

“I’m grateful to have the endorsement of my dear friend and mentor Gloria Molina who has broken glass ceilings throughout her career and who paved the way for many current leaders,” said Antonio Villaraigosa. “As Governor, I will remain focused on education that helps more students graduate and infrastructure projects that create good-paying jobs so that more Californians can have greater economic opportunity and equality.”

Gloria Molina is the first Latina in history to be elected to the California State Legislature, the Los Angeles City Council, and she is the first woman elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Molina was an advocate for women’s health and helped create the Nurse Mentoring Program, a partnership between local community colleges to help more people become nurses to address the county’s nursing shortage. During her time as county supervisor, she led efforts to invest in infrastructure including the development of parkland in the inner cities.

Villaraigosa was also recently endorsed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Congressman Lour Correa, State Senator Steven Bradford and the California Latino Legislative Caucus.
